Short answer: an independent recruiter needs a single tool that brings together ATS, CRM and business development, at a price that replaces their subscriptions instead of adding to them. What separates the tools is total cost, commitment, what is included, migration of your file and invoicing of placements.
This guide compares six tools that independent recruiters cite, based on each vendor’s public pages. We publish Marvin, software for independent recruiters: we present it alongside the others, and we say plainly when it is not the right choice. The examples come from the French market, where this guide was first written.

Why does an independent recruiter not have the needs of an agency?
An independent recruiter does a team’s work alone: prospecting, sourcing, interviewing, presenting, invoicing and chasing payment. They do not need more features than an agency, but fewer tools: one that keeps their memory, works during their interviews and costs less than the subscriptions it replaces.
On your own, nothing makes up for a forgotten task: a client follow-up, the candidate met six months ago, the invoice still waiting. The software must therefore remember for you, and keep prospecting running while you recruit. We covered the criteria for choosing an ATS as an independent recruiter in a dedicated article; here, we compare the tools.
Which criteria really matter for an independent recruiter?
What independent recruiters ask before signing comes down to eight questions, and the first is almost always price. Then come commitment and trial, migrating their file, the place of the CRM, what the licence includes, LinkedIn, invoicing and the ability to grow without changing tools.
- Total cost, compared with the sum of your current subscriptions, not just the licence price.
- Commitment and trial: monthly or annual, free trial or demo.
- Migrating your file: from a spreadsheet, Notion or an old tool, or starting from scratch.
- ATS and CRM in the same database, to prospect your clients without yet another tool.
- What is included: multi-posting, sequences, interview notes, enrichment credits, invoicing.
- Search that finds a profile six months later, in the text of CVs and notes.
- LinkedIn: an extension to create records, message sync, quotas that protect your account.
- Growing: adding a partner, a freelancer or an employee without changing tools.
Which tools for an independent recruiter in 2026?
Six tools come up when an independent recruiter compares their options: three French ATS CRMs (Marvin, Nicoka CABS, Leonar), a French ATS CRM designed with independents in mind (Jarvi) and two international tools (Recruit CRM, Manatal). The table sums up what each vendor publishes, prices included.
| Tool | What is included | What is separate or limited | Commitment and trial | Public price (per user per month) | Data hosting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Marvin (France, Paris) | ATS, CRM, sequences, multi-posting, invoicing, Copilot and MCP | Scout and Note in the Suite plan | 12 months, annual or monthly; demo | €129 (Pro), €189 (Suite) excl. VAT annual; €159 and €239 monthly | France (Scaleway, Paris) |
| Nicoka CABS (France) | All modules: ATS, CRM, multi-posting, timesheets, invoicing, AI, MCP | Set-up from €500, migration on quote | No commitment; 14-day trial | €130 excl. VAT | France |
| Leonar (France, Paris) | ATS, CRM, AI sourcing, sequences, enrichment credits, MCP and API | Interview notes €15 to €39; multi-posting on quote | Free trial | €119 excl. VAT, annual | France |
| Jarvi (France, Paris) | ATS, CRM, AI interview notes, email campaigns, CV generator | Not detailed on the pricing page | Free trial; monthly available | €133, annual | UK (AWS London) |
| Recruit CRM (United States) | ATS and CRM | Multi-posting, AI, interview notes on credits | Not compared here | €79 to €189, annual | Ireland, Singapore, United States |
| Manatal (Singapore, Thailand) | ATS, CRM, job board posting, AI recommendations | Claude and ChatGPT integrations on Enterprise Plus | 14-day trial; monthly available | $15 to $55 annual; $19 to $59 monthly | Not documented |
“Not detailed”, “not compared here” and “not documented” mean we did not find the point on the pages we checked: ask before you sign.
Marvin: a team’s tool, sized for one person
Marvin is the software we publish. Our approach: one licence that replaces an independent recruiter’s subscriptions, from prospecting to getting paid.
- Up and running from the first mandate: your spreadsheet, your Notion or your old tool’s export is migrated and deduplicated; or you start empty, with the extension creating the record from LinkedIn in one click.
- A memory that no longer depends on you: search covers the text of CVs and interview notes, with trade synonyms.
- Sequences prospect during your interviews, on LinkedIn, email and WhatsApp, with cautious quotas suited to your account and random delays between sends.
- From placement to payment: the placement triggers the invoice, in one go or with a deposit and balance, and payment reminders go out on their own.
Multi-posting covers 89 job boards (3 ads on Pro), with 250 enrichment credits per month. The day you hire, you add a licence without changing tools.
Nicoka CABS: all-inclusive, with no commitment
Nicoka CABS is a French suite that counts independent recruiters and collectives among its targets. For €130 excl. VAT per user per month, with no commitment, it includes every module: ATS, CRM with electronic signature, multi-posting, timesheets, invoicing, an AI assistant and an MCP connector.
Who it is for: the independent recruiter who wants a full scope and a flexible contract. Expect set-up fees from €500 and data migration on quote. Our detailed comparison: Marvin vs Nicoka CABS.
Leonar: the AI-first ATS CRM, with a public price and a self-serve trial
Leonar, published in Paris, brings together ATS and CRM, AI sourcing and matching, multichannel sequences, enrichment credits, a Copilot, and access to the API and MCP server. It publishes its price, €119 excl. VAT per user per month on annual billing, and offers a trial with no appointment.
Who it is for: the independent recruiter who wants to test alone and source heavily. Interview notes are an add-on from €15 to €39 per month, and multi-posting is on quote. Our detailed comparison: Marvin vs Leonar.
Jarvi: the ATS CRM for independents, interview notes included
Jarvi, launched in Paris, targets independent recruiters, agencies and in-house teams. Its single offer includes the ATS, the CRM, AI interview notes, email campaigns, a CV generator and an AI agent, for €133 per user per month on annual billing.
Who it is for: the independent recruiter who wants interview notes included and an interface praised by its users. Jarvi does not handle timesheets or day-rate invoicing. Our detailed comparison: Marvin vs Jarvi.
Recruit CRM: the international benchmark, on credits
Recruit CRM is a US ATS and CRM used by more than 1,500 agencies in more than 100 countries, well rated by its users. Its public pricing runs from €79 to €189 per user per month on annual billing, and several features consume credits on top of the subscription.
Who it is for: the independent recruiter who works internationally, in English. Check posting to the job boards you use and where the data is hosted. Our detailed comparison: Marvin vs Recruit CRM.
Manatal: the most affordable ATS
Manatal publishes one of the lowest price lists on the market: $15 to $55 per user per month on annual billing, with a CRM, job board posting and AI recommendations. The entry plan caps the number of jobs and candidates; Claude and ChatGPT integrations are part of the top plan.
Who it is for: the independent recruiter on a tight budget who mostly recruits through job ads. Outreach sequences and placement invoicing are not listed on the pricing page.
When Marvin is not the right choice
Marvin is not the right choice for an independent recruiter whose software budget stays under fifty euros a month. The Pro plan costs €129 excl. VAT per month on annual billing; it pays off when it replaces several subscriptions. If you only use an ATS, with no prospecting or invoicing, an entry-level tool will do.
Other situations where another choice will fit better:
- You want no commitment at all. Marvin asks for 12 months, including on monthly billing; Nicoka CABS has no commitment.
- You want to test alone, without talking to anyone. Marvin is discovered through a demo, on your own data; Leonar, Nicoka CABS, Jarvi and Manatal highlight a free trial.
- You want Scout sourcing and Note interview notes at the Pro price. They are part of the Suite plan, at €189 excl. VAT per month on annual billing.
- Your candidates answer by text message. Marvin reaches out through LinkedIn, email and WhatsApp; it does not send text messages.
Conversely, Marvin is a good fit for an independent recruiter who wants one tool from prospecting to payment, a database that finds a profile six months later and sequences that run during interviews.
Which tool fits your business?
The right choice depends on your budget, your need for flexibility and how much prospecting you do. Start by adding up what you pay today, then compare what each tool really includes: a low price that leaves prospecting, interview notes and invoicing on the side often ends up costing more.
- You want one tool, from prospecting to invoice, hosted in France: Marvin.
- You want the same scope with no commitment: Nicoka CABS.
- You want to test alone and source heavily: Leonar.
- You want interview notes included in a single price: Jarvi.
- You work internationally, in English: Recruit CRM.
- Your budget is very tight and you recruit through ads: Manatal.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best software for an independent recruiter in 2026? The best software is the one that replaces your stacked subscriptions at a price your cash flow can carry. To bring ATS, CRM, business development and invoicing together in a tool hosted in France, Marvin, Nicoka CABS and Leonar are worth comparing; Jarvi includes AI interview notes, Recruit CRM targets international work, Manatal is the most affordable.
How much does recruitment software cost for an independent recruiter? Public prices recorded in October 2026 range from $15 (Manatal) to about €190 per user per month on annual billing, depending on what is included. At Marvin, the Pro plan costs €129 excl. VAT per month on annual billing (€159 monthly), and the Suite plan, with Scout and Note, €189, with a 12-month commitment.
Does an independent recruiter need a CRM on top of an ATS? Yes, if you win your own mandates. The ATS tracks candidates; the CRM tracks companies, contacts and sales follow-ups. In Marvin, both live in the same database, with LinkedIn, email and WhatsApp outreach sequences, which saves you a separate prospecting tool.
Can you start on recruitment software from a spreadsheet? Yes. At Marvin, the file is taken as it is, with no prior formatting: a data engineer deduplicates it and you approve the rules applied. You can also start empty and create your records from LinkedIn in one click with the extension. Migration is free with annual billing.
Is there recruitment software with no commitment for independent recruiters? Yes: Nicoka CABS has no commitment, and Manatal and Jarvi offer monthly billing. Marvin asks for a 12-month commitment, on annual or monthly billing; in return, the price is locked for the period and migrating your data is free with annual billing.
